TWICE THE USUAL

Thom's songwriting journal
Ken's technical journal

Twice the Usual is a collection of songs I wrote between 1996 and 2002. It is a departure from my previous projects only in the fact there are no political songs. If you want political you can check out Blogging at the Big Dog.

These songs are all very personal, a journey, if you will, through the minefields of emotional dysfunction. You can simply have a listen, but if you’re really interested in the background, you can read my songwriting journal for all the sordid details.

The fact it took us more than ten years to put the album together is where the similarity to Guns and Roses ends. Let’s just say Ken is a bit of a perfectionist (he’d probably still be tinkering if I hadn’t started calling him weekly saying "where is my fucking album?"). It was worth the wait. This time, I think we've really got something.

Although the finished product will bear my name on the cover, Twice the Usual, is really our album. I wrote the songs, but the arrangements and production are 100 per cent Ken. Did I mention it was worth the wait?

For music and technical aficionados, Ken has put together a very detailed technical journal explaining all the arrangement and production decisions. Although the bulk of his narrative is not for the uneducated, it also contains a fair bit of humour such as his description of Christian Chénier’s electric guitar solo on the song No Forever: “It's the whole rock-n-roll bag of tricks emptied out onto the floor and scarfed until our bellies ache.”

DONATIONS
This project is funded through the manufacturing phase, but there is still plenty to do, particularly in terms of promotion. We are accepting donations in any amount. Patrons will receive a signed copy of the album for every $100 donated; recognition on this website (if desired); a statement indicating how their money was spent; and, of course, our eternal gratitude.
